Minimum stays, explained

Two kinds of minimum exist here: one belongs to a room and one belongs to a date. Both are listed in full below, and neither is ever discovered at the payment screen.

  • The Long Room Suite: two nights, all year
  • Autumn weekends: two nights
  • Everything else: one night

The room's own minimum

Each room type's floor. A date rule can raise this; nothing lowers it.

The date's minimum

Some date ranges carry their own floor, and it applies to the night you ARRIVE rather than to every night of the stay. All of them, for the published year:

  • 15 September 2026 to 8 November 2026 — 2 nights, arrivals on Friday and Saturday only. Two nights minimum for stays arriving on a Friday or Saturday through the autumn.
  • 22 May 2027 to 25 May 2027 — 3 nights. Three nights minimum over the last weekend in May, when we take one booking for the whole house or none.

Why a minimum exists at all

A room that is let for one night in the middle of a busy weekend usually strands the night on either side of it: nobody wants a Friday alone, so the Friday goes empty and we have sold one night out of three. That is the actual reason. It is not a way of extracting more money from you — it is a way of not losing two nights to sell one.

The honest consequence is that on those dates we would rather turn a one-night booking away than take it, and the booking form does exactly that rather than taking your details and telephoning you later.

What the booking page does about it

It tells you the number and offers you the shortest stay that works, as a link you can click. It does not tell you "no availability", because that is a different fact and would send you away believing the inn is full when it has rooms.

Some nights carry a minimum stay. Some rooms and some dates carry a minimum stay. It is applied by the booking engine before you get to a price, and the reason is given rather than implied.

Check availability

Give the form the night you arrive, the morning you leave and how many of you there are. It checks every night of the range rather than the first one, prices each night on its own and shows you the arithmetic before you type a name. If a night in the middle is full it says so and offers you the ranges nearby that do work.
