Gatherings and small weddings

We are not a wedding venue and we will not pretend to be one. What we are is a house where twenty-four people can eat together after a ceremony somewhere else, and where the whole building can be taken for a night so that everybody stays put afterwards. If you are planning for eighty people, we are the wrong building and will say so on the first call.

The Garden Room

The Garden Room

The back half of the ground floor, with glazed doors onto the garden and one long oak table. It is the room where a lunch, a small dinner or a meeting happens, and it is the room the breakfast service uses until eleven, so it is not available before then.

The Long Room

A first-floor room with three tall windows down one side and nothing fixed in it, which is why it works for the things a dining room does not. There is no lift to it and that is the first thing we say to anybody enquiring.

  • A talk or a class for thirty seated

What we will and will not take on

  • Twenty-four seated in the Garden Room, or forty standing across the Garden Room and the garden
  • No ceremonies here: there is nowhere in the building that works for one and the garden is overlooked
  • A whole-house booking is all fifteen rooms for one night, from two thousand six hundred dollars plus the space hire
  • Catering is brought in by a caterer you choose; our kitchen cooks breakfast and is not big enough for a dinner service
  • Music indoors until ten and outdoors until nine, which is the neighbours' rule rather than ours

We are not a wedding venue. There is nowhere in this building that works for a ceremony and the garden is overlooked on three sides. What we are is somewhere twenty-four people can eat together afterwards and everybody can sleep in the same house. If you are planning for eighty, we are the wrong building and we will say so on the first telephone call rather than after a deposit.

The whole house

All 15 rooms for one night, from $2600 plus any space hire. It is handled by e-mail rather than through the booking form, because a whole-house booking is a conversation about dates, numbers and what is actually happening, and not a checkout.

Catering

Brought in by a caterer you choose. Our kitchen cooks breakfast for up to thirty people and is not large enough to put out a dinner service, which is a fact about the room rather than a policy. We will give you the names of three caterers who have worked here and take nothing from any of them.

There is no lift in this building. There is no lift. One ground-floor room is step-free and eleven rooms cannot be reached without stairs.
