The Long Room Suite

There is one of these. It runs the full depth of the top floor, with a king bed at the garden end and a sitting area at the street end, and it is the only room in the building with a bath you can lie down in. It takes a two-night minimum all year, which is stated here and enforced by the booking engine rather than mentioned at checkout.

  • One king bed and a sofa bed for two
  • 430 square feet
  • Second floor, front to back
  • 2 nights minimum, all year

The room

The brick chimney breast was left bare when the floor was opened up in 2012 and it is the reason the room looks the way it does. The sofa bed is a real one that sleeps two adults badly or two children well; we will say which we think applies if you ask. Being the only room of its type, it is the first room to go and the one most often unavailable on the exact night people want.

What is in the rate, and what is not

The second list is the one worth reading. A guest who books this room knowing what it does not have is a guest who is not disappointed on arrival, and that is worth more to us than a booking we talked somebody into.

Included

  • A king bed and a sofa bed, so the room sleeps four
  • A bath and a separate shower
  • Breakfast for up to four people
  • A sitting area with a desk, a floor lamp and a chair you can work in
  • Wi-fi, and the only room where a second person can take a call without leaving

Not included, and not available

  • Step-free access. It is two flights up
  • A one-night stay. The minimum is two nights all year
  • A television. Even this room does not have one

What this room costs

Three flat numbers move a nightly rate here and none of them is a percentage: the room's own rate, an extra $30 on a Friday or a Saturday night, and a seasonal adjustment on the date ranges below. Add them up and you have the price. Tax is 14.75% plus $3.50 a night and is shown on the booking page on the same screen as the room, not added at the end.

Late spring 20 April 2027 to 15 June 2027 +$25 $354 $384

Why the rate changes

2 nights minimum, all year. This room takes a minimum of 2 nights on every date, and the booking engine enforces it before it shows you a price rather than mentioning it at checkout. Two nights minimum for stays arriving on a Friday or Saturday through the autumn. Three nights minimum over the last weekend in May, when we take one booking for the whole house or none.

Free until three days before you arrive. Free cancellation until three days before arrival. Inside three days we charge the first night. Same terms on every room, and a cancel link in your confirmation e-mail that needs no password.

The other rooms

The Garden Queen

The Garden Queen

from $164 a night

  • One queen bed
  • Sleeps 3
  • Ground floor
  • Straight onto the walled garden

The four ground-floor rooms at the back of the house, each with a sash window that opens onto the garden and very little between you and it. They are the quietest rooms we have, because the garden wall takes the street noise out, and they are the ones people book again.

About this room

The Parlour King

The Parlour King

from $204 a night

  • One king bed
  • Sleeps 3
  • First floor, front
  • A bay window over 61st Street

Three front rooms on the first floor, each with the original bay window and the deep sills that come with a 1926 house. They are the biggest doubles in the building and the lightest rooms in the morning, and they face the street, which is a trade you should make deliberately.

The Attic Double

The Attic Double

from $184 a night

  • Two double beds
  • Sleeps 4
  • Second floor, under the eaves
  • A dormer window over rooftops

The three rooms on the top floor, each with two double beds under a sloping ceiling and a dormer window looking over the rooftops towards the elevated line. They sleep four, which makes them the rooms families and pairs of friends take, and they are two flights up with no lift.

There is one of these in the building, so availability is a real number rather than a scarcity message. Give the form your dates and it will tell you whether one is free on every night of them.
