Getting here

The station is two minutes on foot and two railways stop at it. Below is every route people actually use, with real numbers rather than "conveniently located".

  • Two minutes from 61st Street–Woodside
  • No car park of our own
  • Luggage held from 7am on the day you arrive

From Grand Central and Midtown — about 18 minutes

The Long Island Rail Road from Grand Central Madison to Woodside takes about eighteen minutes and the station is at the end of this street. Trains run every fifteen to thirty minutes through the day and stop overnight. Buy the ticket before you board; it costs more on the train.

From Times Square and the west side — about 25 minutes

The 7 train from Times Square to 61st Street-Woodside takes about twenty-five minutes and runs all night. Take the local rather than the express outside rush hour; the express does not always stop here.

From LaGuardia — about 20 minutes

About twenty minutes by car or taxi, traffic permitting, and the fare is usually in the low thirties. By bus it is the Q70 to 74th Street and then one stop west on the 7, which takes about forty minutes and costs the price of a single fare.

From Kennedy — about 35 minutes

About thirty-five minutes by car. By train, the AirTrain to Jamaica and then the rail road to Woodside is about fifty minutes and lands you at the end of the street; the E and the 7 with a change at 74th Street is cheaper and takes about an hour and ten.

From Newark — about 75 minutes

An hour to an hour and a half by car depending on the tunnel. By train it is the AirTrain, then to Penn Station, then the rail road or the 7. Budget two hours and do not book a tight connection.

By car

We have no car park. There is metered parking on 61st Street and Roosevelt Avenue, free but competitive parking on the residential blocks north of 39th Avenue, and a paid garage six minutes' walk away on Roosevelt. Read the alternate-side signs; they are enforced.

Walking from the station

Leave the station on the 61st Street side, turn away from Roosevelt Avenue and walk two blocks north. We are on the left, a brick house set slightly back with a maple in front of it. It is about two hundred yards and there are no stairs on the route except the ones out of the station itself, which has both stairs and a lift.

There is no lift in this building. There is no lift. One ground-floor room is step-free and eleven rooms cannot be reached without stairs.

The desk closes at ten at night. Check-in is from 3:00pm and the desk is staffed until 10:00pm. Arriving later than that is fine if you telephone before 6:00pm the same evening; arriving later without telling us may mean nobody is here.

Check availability

Give the form the night you arrive, the morning you leave and how many of you there are. It checks every night of the range rather than the first one, prices each night on its own and shows you the arithmetic before you type a name. If a night in the middle is full it says so and offers you the ranges nearby that do work.
