Nine people work here and the list below is what we would actually advertise if a post came up. Pay is stated on every advert we place, because a job advert without a number wastes both sides' time.
Rotas published three weeks ahead
Breakfast on every shift
Overtime at time and a half
Breakfast cook
$25 - $28 an hour
Five mornings, 5:30am to 12:30pm
Cooking breakfast for up to thirty covers with one other person, taking the bread delivery, and deciding what goes out when the fruit is not good enough. You will be trusted to change the plate without asking.
Housekeeper
$23 - $26 an hour
Four or five days, 9:00am to 3:00pm
Fifteen rooms across three floors with no lift, which is the honest first line of this advert. Two on a normal day, three when the house turns over.
Front desk
$24 - $27 an hour
Shifts between 7:00am and 10:00pm, including weekends
Arrivals, departures, the telephone, and the part of the job that matters most: telling somebody the truth about a room before they book it rather than after.
What is actually on offer
Breakfast on every shift, at the table, sitting down
Overtime paid at time and a half, and rotas published three weeks ahead
A month's notice of any change to your regular shift pattern
Paid time to attend an English or a Spanish class if you want one
What is not
This is a fifteen-room building with nine people in it. There is no career ladder, no head office and
no transfer to a bigger property, because there is no bigger property. What there is instead is a job
where the person who decides something is standing next to you, and where changing how a thing is done
takes a conversation rather than a form.
How to apply
Nothing is open right now. When something is, it is advertised here and in the window, and you apply
by e-mail or by walking in and asking — both work and neither is worse than the other. Tell us what
you have done and when you can work; a covering letter is not required and never has been.
This is a demonstration site. This is a demonstration website. The Woodside Inn is not a real business, no room here can actually be booked, and the telephone number is a placeholder. It was built to show what a small hotel gets for a fixed price. No role here is a real vacancy and no application will reach anybody.
Fifteen rooms · breakfast included · no lift
Check availability
Give the form the night you arrive, the morning you leave and how many of you there are. It checks every night of the range rather than the first one, prices each night on its own and shows you the arithmetic before you type a name. If a night in the middle is full it says so and offers you the ranges nearby that do work.
